The Star bertarikh 15 Disember 2012 – STILL NO RESPONSE TO ERRORS SPOTTED IN THE CHEMISTRY SPM PAPER

The Ministry of Education (MoE) would like to refer to the letter titled “Still no response to errors spotted in the Chemistry SPM paper” by Boo Soon Yew, Penang in The Star newspaper dated 15 December 2012.

 

Item 20  (Chemistry 1 SPM 2012, Kod 4541/1)

 

‘Heat of neutralization’ is defined as the heat change that occurs when 1 mole of H+ ions from the acid neutralize 1 mole of OH-of alkali ions to produce water.

Item 20 using the concept of diprotic acid (sulfuric acid) and monoprotic acid (hydrochloric acid).

2 moles of H+ ions from sulfuric acid reacts with 1 mole of OH ions from a solution of potassium hydroxide compared with 1 mole of H+  ions from the hydrochloric acid reacts with 1 mole of OH ions from a solution of potassium hydroxide.

 

No error in item 20 and there is only one answer.

 

Item 29 (Chemistry 1 SPM 2012, Kod 4541/1)

 

This item is in conformity with Form 4 Chemistry curriculum documents and factual accuracy is also found in the textbook.

No error in item 29 and there is only one answer.

The ministry assures all candidates that their test papers will be scored fairly and students will be awarded the grades they deserve.
