Invitation to Schools to Participate in
2013 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award
Theme: Values Education
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT) in cooperation with UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. are pleased to re-announce the 2013 SEAMEO-Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Award, with the theme of “Values Education”.
Considering the importance of values education, within the school system, to promote Education for Sustainable Development, the theme of the 2013 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award is: “Values Education“. This concept aims to raise awareness and promote positive human values among both teachers and students. The purposes of the 2013 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award with the theme of “Values Education” are:
1. To raise awareness about the importance of values education among schools and communities in Southeast Asia;
2. To promote and share best practices and initiatives of values-based education approaches within schools and communities in Southeast Asia; and
3. To enable schools to develop and improve current practices in values education.
Under the theme of “Values Education”, the award’s scheme will select schools with the best practices that promote students’ understanding and knowledge of values that develop a positive transformation of attitudes and student behaviour through an effective school policy, management plan, activities, curricular, and teaching strategies.
We would like to invite all public and private schools in the 11 SEAMEO Member countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam to submit information about their programmes relating to the theme “Values Education”. The last day for submission of entries is on Monday 16 September 2013.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) would like to refer to the letter titled “Still no response to errors spotted in the Chemistry SPM paper” by Boo Soon Yew, Penang in The Star newspaper dated 15 December 2012.
Item 20 (Chemistry 1 SPM 2012, Kod 4541/1)
‘Heat of neutralization’ is defined as the heat change that occurs when 1 mole of H+ ions from the acid neutralize 1 mole of OH-of alkali ions to produce water. Item 20 using the concept of diprotic acid (sulfuric acid) and monoprotic acid (hydrochloric acid). 2 moles of H+ ions from sulfuric acid reacts with 1 mole of OH– ions from a solution of potassium hydroxide compared with 1 mole of H+ ions from the hydrochloric acid reacts with 1 mole of OH– ions from a solution of potassium hydroxide.
No error in item 20 and there is only one answer.

This item is in conformity with Form 4 Chemistry curriculum documents and factual accuracy is also found in the textbook. No error in item 29 and there is only one answer. The ministry assures all candidates that their test papers will be scored fairly and students will be awarded the grades they deserve.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Polis menahan dua lelaki dipercayai kekasih dan bekas kekasih seorang pelajar berusia 15 tahun yang menjadi mangsa rogol di sebuah chalet di Kampung Raja, Besut, kelmarin.
Ketua Polis Daerah Besut, Superintendan Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria berkata, suspek pertama berusia 17 tahun yang tidak bersekolah adalah kekasih gadis itu berasal dari Kampung Keluang, Besut, manakala suspek kedua, bekas kekasihnya yang juga tidak bersekolah berusia 18 tahun dari Kampung Gong Pasir, Kerandang, Besut.
Menurutnya, mangsa, seorang pelajar tingkatan tiga berasal dari Kampung Tanah Merah, Kerandang, Besut mendakwa dirogol dua lelaki itu pada tarikh dan tempat berbeza.
“Mengikut laporan, kira-kira jam 9.45 malam Khamis lalu, mangsa keluar mengikut teman lelakinya, suspek pertama ke sebuah chalet di Kampung Bukit Keluang, Kampung Raja, Besut,” katanya.
